Justin was a believer but he became complacent in a busy lifestyle and not hearing from God. He was busy living his life, working, and taking care of his family but failed to make time for God. God wanted to speak to him and desired fellowship with Justin. Justin was going through the motion of reading his bible and prayer but never took the time to listen for God’s voice. Justin was walking in his will but not in God’s will for his life. Justin kept feeling like something bad was going to happen to him. Instead of him praying against it and seeking God, he just shook that feeling off. Two days later, Justin got into a terrible car accident and walked away with no injuries when the other driver was severely hurt. This experience was an eye opener for Justin and he realized how he had been too busy for God. He was thankful that he walked away with no injuries. He realized how God protected him when he should’ve lost his life. He now spends more time with God; ensuring that God comes first before his family and job.
Are you going through the motions of life and not spending any time with God? Sometimes God will allow certain circumstances to happen, not to harm you but to get your attention. This could be trials, difficulties, or blessings. In Acts 9, God gave Saul a Damascus road experience blinding him to get his attention. Jeremiah 29:11 says ” For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Do not allow your busy schedule to take away time with God. Sometimes, God speaks but we don't hear him because we are not in tune with him. 1 Kings 19 says that God has a still small voice. Psalm 46:10 says, "Be still, and know that I am God." We have to learn how to be still and just listen. Let's cut our cell phones and TV off so there aren't any distractions during our prayer time and just focus on God.
Let’s pray:
Heavenly Father, Psalms 8:1 says,”O Lord, our Lord, How excellent is your name in all the earth, who have set your glory above the heavens!” God you are a jealous God. Help me to realize that when I put other things in my life before you, I am practicing idolatry. 1 John 5:21 says that I am to keep myself from idols. Lord, help me to set my priorities in order. I get so busy with life that I often place you on the back burner. With your strength I know I can overcome because Philippians 4:13 says I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. I know that my life would be better if I put you first. Matthew 6:33 says, “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” Proverbs 16:3 says, “Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.”
I declare that I will focus on Godly things. Romans 8:5 says,” For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. I decree that I will walk in the spirit so I do not fulfill the lust of the flesh. My mind will be set on things above and not things that are on the earth as in Colossians 3:2. I decree today that I will delight myself in the Lord, and you will give me the desires of my heart. In Jesus Mighty name Amen.
