Sarah was a beautiful girl but had no goals or direction in life. Every day she would smoke marijuana and do other drugs just so she could get high. One day she decided to try Meth and took too much. She was found unresponsive by her roommate. EMS was called and she was resuscitated, incubated, and placed on a mechanical ventilator. A few days later, she awoke to find herself connected to tubes and wires everywhere. She was scared and eventually she was disconnected from the ventilator. As she recovered in the hospital, she met some of the nicest people who were taken care of her. One nurse prayed with Sarah and told her that the reason she is still alive is that God has a purpose for her life. This statement stayed with Sarah and she developed her own relationship with God. She realized how good God truly is and wanted to spread the news. Now Sarah has found her purpose in life and goes all over the country telling her story and trying to prevent people from using drugs.
Are you like Sarah living day to day wondering why you are here on earth? Do you feel like you have no goals or direction in life? Well there is hope for you. You were created for a reason and you do have a purpose here on earth. You were created to honor God; glorify God and have fellowship with him; to have dominion over the earth; have good relationships with others. Sometimes discovering your purpose in life is as simple as asking God. Other times you have to go through something like Sarah did to discover you purpose. Stop and think about what it is you are really passionate about or feel like you are called to do while you are here on this earth. Psalms 103:15 says, “Our days on earth are like grass; like wildflowers, we bloom and die.” We all are on earth for an appointed time, so let’s not waste our days anymore living life without a purpose.
Let’s pray:
Heavenly Father, You are a Mighty God. I make my petition known to you today that I want to discover my purpose in life. I cry out to you, God Most High, to God who fulfills his purpose for me as in Psalms 57:2. Your word says in Proverbs 29:18 where there is no vision, the people perish. Lord, give me a vision for my life. Psalms 138:8 says, “The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever. Do not forsake the work of your hands.” Lord, show me my plans so I can have hope. Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
Lord, I am your workmanship created in Christ Jesus for good works as in Ephesians 2:10. Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path as in Psalm 119:105. Lord, you will establish my steps because I delight in your ways as in Psalm 37:23. Psalms 32:8 says, “That you will instruct me and teach me in the way I should go and will counsel me with your eye upon me.” Lord, whatever my purpose is, I will work heartily unto you and not for men as in Colossians 3:23. Lord, no good thing will you withhold from me because I walk upright. Thank you for an abundance of wisdom. Thank you for making me sensitive to the Holy Spirit. I am thanking you in advance for answering this prayer. In Jesus name Amen.
